What Earth Day looked like this year 🌎🌱

Maybe you were the one who stopped at the booth and was not sure what you were looking at.

Hello worm friend!

Maybe you were the person who stopped at the booth and was not sure what you were looking at. Maybe you leaned in for a closer look at a cocoon and asked what it was. Maybe you walked away thinking about it more than you expected.

That is exactly how this starts. And you are already part of this community.

In the Gardens Family Day: Sunnylands, Rancho Mirage

Introducing red wigglers to a new friend at Sunnylands, and a closer look at what lives in your soil.
On April 19th I had a booth at Sunnylands for In the Gardens Family Day. Kids picked macaroni "worms" out of rice and glued them onto paper titled "my worm ecosystem." I held up cocoons and red wigglers for everyone to see up close. Teachers asked how to bring this into their classrooms. Two people reached out after the event about purchasing worms.

All of that started with one person stopping and asking a question. Healthy soil supports plants. Plants support wildlife. Wildlife is part of the desert ecosystem we all share. When that connection clicks, it does not let go.

The community that showed up that day reminded me why this work matters. My friends came and brought their families. My tax preparer came. The owner of the local print shop where I make my materials came. These are people who believe in what we are building here. You are one of them. Whether you signed up at Sunnylands or have been here from the beginning, you are part of this.

Oswit Land Trust Saving Nature Film Festival

A celebratory moment with the Oswit Land Trust leadership. This is what conservation looks like up close.
On Earth Day I was proud to sponsor the Oswit Saving Nature Film Festival here in the Coachella Valley. Oswit has protected over 1,000 species and preserved more than 10,000 acres of land. Being in that room was a reminder that it all starts somewhere small. A worm bin. A question. A moment of curiosity.

What comes next

You were the curious one once. Now you can be the reason a student has that same moment.

Adopt a Classroom and bring this to a student near you.

Until next time,
